MY STORY: I started as a noon-duty supervisor for a middle school while I attended Business school. People kept asking me to become a substitute because they thought I would be a great teacher... At the time, I barely liked kids! LOL! I graduated Business school, worked in aerospace for 5 or so years, and then left to start a family. After I had my daughter, I realized that I wasn't being fulfilled in THAT line of work. I wasn't doing anything that really mattered in the grand scheme of things. So, I started being a substitute teacher. I really enjoyed it. With the blessing of my family, teacher/mentors, I started National University to earn my teaching credentials...Fast forward 18 months and I started working at an inner-city school in San Bernardino, CA. Wow! What an eye-opener. I clearly had led a sheltered life. My students (a Special Day Class) were all struggling with soooo many things in their lives: poverty, homeless-ness, foster care, gangs, etc. Things I'd never experienced in my own life. We clicked right off the bat!! Within a month, I had changed my focus to Special Education and completed my Master's the next summer. These kids - so different than I - changed my perspective, my thoughts, feelings, and attitude. I LOVE these kids! Sadly, I left that school that changed my life...it was bittersweet. Ten days later I arrived in Tullahoma, TN and started teaching there. After a few twists and turns, I AM HOME. Franklin County and my kiddos here at FCHS have my heart. I am truly blessed to be able to work with the best administration, teachers, assistants, kiddos and parents! My hope is to be here to teach as long as life allows me.
